Magic stands closer to the original source than any later craft. It moves through the world more directly and elegantly, accomplishing what it intends with less mediation. Technology, by contrast, works through the secondary effects left behind in nature — the traces and impacts of higher forces that have already passed through. Where magic acts from nearer the Pattern itself, technology must labor upward from the residue, refining what remains after the greater powers have already shaped the world. This is why magic often appears more effortless: it still carries something of the original elegance, while technology must rebuild order from what has already fallen into latency.
