Desecrated

Corrupted, forbidden, or death-touched magic that twists the natural order.

Overview

The Desecrated collection is a Maldictum spellcasting tradition centered on exploitation and the co-opting of the wills of others. It draws power by accessing entities not aligned with The Way of God, particularly by preying upon weakness, ignorance, and unawareness in both the living and the dead.

Desecrated casters do not create power so much as they steal, twist, and redirect it from sources that were never meant to be touched. This form of magic is fundamentally parasitic — it thrives by breaking boundaries and turning the strength of others against them. Those who walk this path often find that the very forces they exploit begin to exploit them in return.

Narrative Clarifications

Corruptions are enduring marks upon the soul or spirit. Once inflicted, they persist indefinitely, lingering as a stain that can only be cleansed through the intervention of Indictum.

Snares function as spiritual suppressors. They bind or dampen specific aspects of a being’s essence—whether a hard-won skill, a cherished memory, or even their very will. Notably, a Snare may also manifest as a Corruption, layering restriction atop lasting defilement.

Pacts represent a different bargain entirely. Rather than reshaping or stealing power through corruption or suppression, a Pact allows the practitioner to draw upon the strength of another source through intimate knowledge of its nature. It is not skill that grants access, but understanding—the ability to invoke and direct power that belongs to something else.
